The Iowa Department of Public Health received a notice on Wednesday from the federal government stating that it will not receive as many COVID-19 vaccines as it expected. “It appears that our provisions could be reduced by up to 30%,” IDPH said in a statement. “However, we are working to obtain additional confirmation and details from our federal partners. It will take some time to work through the following steps and adjust our planning.” Other states are also not receiving the amount of vaccines they expected, IDPH said. On Monday, Iowa state hospitals received the first doses of the Pfizer vaccines. Health care workers were the first to be vaccinated. During a press conference Wednesday, Governor Kim Reynolds announced the easing of restrictions, especially for some business and leisure activities. On Wednesday, Reynolds also said that 500 healthcare workers have been vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine without any ill effects. She said it looks like the Moderna vaccine could be in Iowa by Monday, and as of Wednesday morning, there had been 260,227 positive COVID-19 cases, 200776 recoveries and 3,354 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
