Finally, to make the new content archiving policy more understandable to all users, the level of “High Quality” will be renamed to “Archive Savings”.

Basically, the Google Photos team is not following in its footsteps but rather wants to ensure that users are well-aware of the running news starting next week and avoid annoying misunderstandings.

We remind you that Google Pixel users will apply slightly different rules:

  • Google Pixel owners (2016 model) will be able to continue saving photos and videos in original quality without time or space limit
  • With Google Pixel 2, photos and videos are available in original quality without space limits (if uploaded by January 16, 2021) while content can be uploaded in high quality (or storage space saving) without restrictions.
