There is a new project to restore part of Bala Denerlynthe The gym in Barra, in the eastern district of Naples. With 1 million 778 thousand euros, the gymnasium excluded from the interventions carried out at the 2019 Universiade Games will be redeveloped. On that occasion, in fact, the area of the pool used for water polo training was renovated and then completely abandoned. . For years we have been waiting for the return of the municipal interest from via delle Repubbliche Marinare to the community And keep them away from the target of vandals and criminals who harmed what was created on the occasion of the international event.
This story. In June 2018, looking at the universities a year later, the entire PalaDennerlein redevelopment project was approved. In December 2018 ARUS, the regional agency for sports universities, delivered the works which, “due to disagreements with the executing company also due to design errors”, will focus exclusively on the pool area without, however, affecting the diving pool and trampolines but only the largest pool and facilities and related services. On the other hand, only demolitions and some barriers were carried out in the gym area. The interventions continue even after the end of the Universiade and were completed in September 2020, tested in March 2021. The East Naples Sports Complex was returned to the Municipality of Naples, which owns it, in November 2021 but the Palazzo San Giacomo “was not able to reopen” due to the impossibility of obtaining a certificate Fire prevention without completing work in the gym.” The PalaDennerlein therefore remained excommunicated from the community and, on several occasions, was visited by unknown persons who stole materials for resale and damaged part of what had been set up a few months earlier, such as fixtures, systems and furnishings.
PalaDennerlein, which was built during the “reconstruction” period following the 1980 earthquake, covers more than nineteen thousand square metres. In addition to the Olympic and plunge pools, it also has an open soccer field, some green spaces, and ample parking. The multifunctional area consists of two sports halls, one of which has a parquet court for basketball and volleyballAnd dressing rooms and stands for about five hundred seats and various service rooms.
ARUS will carry out the following works in the gym area using resources from the Campania region. The project to complete the redevelopment of the PalaDennerlein – now approved by the Municipality of Naples with a council decision proposed by the sports consultant Emanuela Ferrante – focuses on the gym area where demolitions and new configurations of spaces have already been carried out. Universities work. Therefore, the redevelopment will be completed with the finishing of the walls, the maintenance of the fixtures, the replacement of glass doors and systems, and so on. The core of the project is the redevelopment of the court: new FIBA-approved parquet floors have been installed throughout the area that will allow it to be used for national championships and international basketball and volleyball events. An LED lighting system and a new ceiling will also be installed in the gym area. More interventions are planned outside where work is being done to improve parking and traffic lighting.
Other resources are needed to get their hands on the swimming pool area which is being renovated for the universities but then it is looted and destroyed by criminals. Securing the latter and completing newly approved works is essential For the subsequent reopening of the Sports Center in Barra or the final ban of the effective management after years of sports that deprived thousands of athletes in the eastern region of Naples and beyond.
