In a recent survey conducted by CNBC, it has been revealed that over half of the top technology officers across various sectors are planning to purchase enterprise-level generative artificial intelligence (AI) software in the next six months. Microsoft’s Copilot, a torchbearer in the broader AI market, has assumed an early lead in this domain.
With regards to AI capabilities, spending plans are on the rise, with more than half of the executives surveyed indicating that their companies’ investments in AI are increasing. Microsoft’s Copilot for 365, which was launched in November, has received enthusiastic responses from major corporate buyers such as Visa, BP, Honda, and Pfizer.
While concerns about the cost and data security associated with generative AI software have been raised, many companies are still planning to adopt these capabilities in the coming months. Gartner, a leading research and advisory firm, expects companies to initially pilot gen AI with test groups consisting of IT and specific business functions, gradually extending its availability across the entire workforce.
The focus for integration of generative AI will primarily be on leveraging data from sources beyond 365 work apps, including ERP, CRM, supply chain, financial, and legal systems. Major enterprise software vendors such as Salesforce, SAP, Workday, and Adobe are also entering the gen AI market by rolling out products with embedded gen AI features. This trend, however, comes with higher costs for organizations.
Despite the growing spending on generative AI, it still falls far behind the budget allocations for cybersecurity needs. Companies currently spend $5 on security for every dollar invested in gen AI. Nevertheless, Microsoft is currently leading the gen AI market, primarily owing to its substantial install base and the wealth of data available within its Office suite and other platforms.
As technology executives gear up to invest in enterprise-level generative AI software, Microsoft’s Copilot continues to be at the forefront, dominating the market. With the increasing adoption of AI capabilities across various sectors, gen AI is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing efficiency and productivity in the modern workforce.
