In the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023, the United States, Japan, England and Denmark have had successes.

At Eden Park in Auckland, in Group E, the world champions United States beat Vietnam 3-0, taking the lead in the 14th minute with a low left-footed shot from a very young Sophie Smith, born in 2000, back-heeled by Alex Morgan, who missed a penalty in the 44th minute, saved by Tran and in the 52nd minute they doubled again with Smith. In the 77th minute, Horan signed the trio.

At the Waikato Stadium in Hamilton, Japan beat Zambia for the first time 5-0 in Group C. The Japanese opened the match in the 43rd minute with Hinata Miyazawa following an assist from Fujina and doubled their lead in the 55th minute with a turn from Mina Tanaka. The third goal came in the 62nd minute again with a shot from Miyazawa, then in the 71st minute Jun Endo went down poker and in the 101st minute Rikku Yueki scored a penalty after Musonda was sent off to make the final 5-0.

In Group D, European champions England beat aggressive Haiti 1-0 in Brisbane. The match was decided by a penalty kick by Stanway, Pachyba handed Lewis a handball and kicked it twice, in fact Curley Theus rejected the first shot but for being off the line the penalty kick was repeated. The Haitians came close to equalizing with a low shot from Roselord Borgella and a shot from Dumornay that was saved by Erbes.

In the other match in Group D, Denmark beat China 1-0. In Perth’s rectangular stadium, the Danes found the winning goal in the 90th minute with a header from Amalie Vansgaard, who had just entered, at the end of a very balanced match.
