The great champions in Oristano Bay for the World Kitefoil Masters Championship and the European Junior Formula Kite Championship
The week of major events bringing the Formula Kite European Youth Championship and the Kitefoil Open Masters World Championship has been introduced to Oristano.
The organization holds a signature Eolo Beach Sports and Open Water Challenge.
The event is part of the rich calendar of major “Sardegna Isola dello Sport” events sponsored by the Sardinian Region Tourism Department and supported by the Municipality of Oristano, the Sardinian Foundation and the Oristano Foundation.
For spectators, curious and enthusiastic, following the regatta will be simple, free and can be done from the beach: in fact, the regatta field will vary with the changing wind conditions and the entire Gulf of Oristano will be the setting for this great event. Appointment.
Masters of the world
The Kitefoil Open Masters World Championship brings the best athletes looking for a world title to Torregrande, access to this competition is determined by age, in fact only those over 35 can participate. There are 25 members, 4 women and 21 men, but registrations are still open and some surprises can come.
European youth
The list of under-21 participants in the “Formula Kite European Youth Championship” is very dense, very young champions challenging each other in search of the European title.
An important open competition, whose participation also extends to athletes from other countries, who cannot compete for the title of Champion and European Champion but can instead win the Torre Grande Kitefuel Trophy.
There are several notable names in this long list of young and wealthy Italian fleet: Riccardo Pianossi, a few weeks ago number one in the ever-changing world ranking, now third; Angelo Soli, Giuseppe Paolillo, Julio Hozzi, Flavio Marx are among the best on the national and international scene.
Among the women, the third in the world rankings will be the Israeli Gal Zuckerman, and the Polish athletes Julia Damasiewicz and Magdalena Wojciechowska will also enter the European Championships in Sardinia. Sardinian Maddalena Spano will play at home. Also in this case, the registrations will remain open according to the regulations, until a few days before the start.
Formula One of the Sea
Speed, adrenaline and great technical skills: these are the characteristics that are not lacking for professional kite-diers who will cruise across the bay with their sails, up to 40 knots. The ones that spectators will be able to admire again in Torregrande are very technical instruments, designed and built to work at high performance even with very few wind knots thanks to the shim, a fin that allows the board to rise above the water.
Towards Paris 2024
The Oristano date is one of the last dates for the athletes who expect the start of the first Olympic qualifications, which will be held in August in the Gulf of Marseille, which is the place that will host boat races in 2024 on the occasion of the Olympics. In fact, Kiteboarding will make its Olympic debut in just one year, on the occasion of Paris 2024.
Five continents in Sardinia
Almost 90 athletes will compete in Oristano Bay, along with them also teams from different countries, including: Italy, Brazil, France, United Kingdom, Poland, China, Israel, Mexico, Czech Republic, Canada, Switzerland, Denmark, France and many others.

Monday the 22nd will be devoted to registrations, to check the equipment for the athletes, and on Tuesday the 23rd, regattas will get to their heart with the first trials. On the afternoon of Tuesday 23 May the opening ceremony will take place, on this occasion a group of cruise passengers from Costa Diadema (which will arrive at the industrial port) will visit Torregrande precisely to help, if only for a few hours, this world and European double sport event. Eolo Beach Sports in collaboration with Coldiretti Oristano will welcome tourists by offering local delicacies that cruise passengers can purchase directly from the producers’ stands.
