The South Carolina soccer team’s opening game of the season against Tennessee on Saturday nearly came to an end.
Gamecocks head coach Will Muschamp announced Thursday night during a call show that back-to-back Kevin Harris would get the start of the first match opposite the Vols.
The sophomore was in direct competition with second-year student Dishon Fenwick red shirt as both players were listed as juniors on this week’s depth chart.
Harris, who is 5-foot-10 and 225-pounder from Hainsville, Georgia, played six matches last season and carried 21 times over 179 yards, averaging 8.5 yards, with four touchdowns.
While Harris is starting out, Muschamp added that Fenwick and ZaQuandre White moving into junior college would also play in the first half and that the full back who does the best will get more load.
Muschamp also announced two special junior teams.
Defensive fullback Jimmy Robinson will handle shooting return duties with Shi Smith returning kick-off and Dakirion Joyner returning “out.”
With these announcements, most of Carolina’s starting lineup is now known to handle right, one of the few exceptions.
Jaylen Nichols, Jakai Moore, or Vershon Lee will start on the right side as young Dylan and Sleep start the left intervention.
Young player Jahmer Brown, who plays as DIME back, who mainly plays in passing positions, is the decision on the time of the match with injury. Safety core RJ Roderick would likely slide to that spot in the game if this mode were used.
Gamecocks and Vols are set at 7:30 pm on the SEC at Williams Price Stadium.
