The Microlino 2.0 will go into production in September: the electric compact van is approved as a “heavy-duty quad bike,” which can run for 16 years with a B1 license. The happy ending will be a story that began in 2016, when the Swiss Micro Mobility System, which specializes in motorcycles, announced the project. The news caused a sensation on the bodywork, similar to the legendary Isetta, a very original small car produced initially, from 1953 to ’56, by Iso di Bresso (Milan) and later, from 55 to 62, by BMW, with a license.
Two years later, he began the role of German ArtigaBut a dispute arose immediately with Mms, with accusations of cloning. At the end of 2019, the conflict is over: the two contenders are free to build their prototypes. Mms confirms Microlino 2.0, Artega announces Karo-Isetta. At that point, the Swiss sought refuge in Cecomp from the Piedmont region (from La Loggia, Turin province), which was founded by Giovanni Fourneris in 1978 as “body shop”, in the Turin meaning of the word (model-making and hand-making of the bodywork), and today is a reality. A fact that is internationally recognized for the production of prototypes and small series (among the products, the Bluecar, the electric vehicle used by the French partnership service Autolib).
2020 was spent perfecting the project. Microlino 2.0 is more car than the original idea. Dimensions are slightly increased, the tire is completely redesigned, and the rear track is enlarged for greater stability. But access is always from the front door: like the unforgettable Isetta. The growth in size made it possible to revise the interiors: the living room is still necessary, but it is more spacious. New colors, seat covers and rims.
To drive the Microlino 2.0 it would be an electric motor, Stronger and more efficient (up to 200 km autonomy) than the initial project. But the general improvement did not raise the base rate, which remained steady at € 12,000. Planned production for 2022 is around 3,000 copies initially, but Mms aims to double already in the following year. Factory chosen for assembly is La Loggia (south of Turin), with the tire to be from Moncalieri. Already had several reservations.
