Poland, Russian ambassador smeared with red paint during May 9 celebrations

Sergei Andreev arrived at the cemetery of Soviet soldiers in the Polish capital, accompanied by some diplomats and his wife. Some people who had gathered early in the cemetery blocked his way and chanted insulting slogans. At this point, the Polish media reported, they began throwing red paint at the ambassador and the people who accompanied him. The ambassador was unable to lay the wreath at the cemetery as he would have liked and had to leave with the local police after the attack.

The Russian Embassy in Poland has already announced an official protest. “We will lodge an official protest, we have informed the authorities of our plans,” Andreev said, adding that the police forces should have ensured a minimum level of security.
