LONDON – As the coronavirus is forcing some companies to shrink their physical offices, Netflix plans to triple the existing office space in London and move to a new headquarters in the United Kingdom, according to it. Report from BloombergCiting sources familiar with the situation.
The California broadcast giant is said to be planning to move to a new 87,000-square-foot building in London’s West End. The property, located on Berners Street, was occupied by the capita outsourcing firm until recently, but Netflix is said to be taking over the lease.
Netflix didn’t immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
Netflix, which has nearly 300 employees in the UK, currently rents about 30,000 square feet across two nearby buildings. It will reportedly continue to rent one of these and will have around 100,000 square feet of office space in London in total after the changes.
A Netflix spokesperson told Bloomberg: “As part of our ongoing commitment to the UK, we are excited to expand our operations in London.”
While some companies have embraced remote work, Netflix’s co-CEO, Reed Hastings, is not a fan. Last month He told the Wall Street Journal The inability to meet people face-to-face is “pure negative”.
