In the United States a group of senators led by a Democrat Edward J Markey (Chair of the Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Clean Air, Climate, and Nuclear Safety), proposes reinstatement of the “new Ban All Fossil Fuel Exports Act” to ban the export of U.S. crude oil and natural gas abroad. “In order to prioritize American consumers over profit from fossil fuels and to help ensure that the United States lives up to its climate and clean energy commitments on the global stage.”
In 2015, President Obama signed a law lifting a 40-year ban restricting US oil exports abroad.
Last year, US crude exports increased 22% from 2021 to a record 3.6 million barrels per day.
Earlier this year, the Energy Information Administration said that increased US LNG exports were causing prices to rise for domestic customers. He said – banning oil and natural gas exports abroad is a victory for environmental justice, for our economy and our planet.
