(ANSA – AFP) – Margaret River, Dec 10 – Australia has been battling for hours against two different natural disasters: fires on the west coast and rain and floods in the east.

The flames, which have engulfed Australia in summer, have hit the Margaret River tourist area, loved by surfers and wine lovers, as temperatures have reached 40 degrees in recent weeks. Currently, there have been no injuries or homes damaged but hundreds of people have been forced to evacuate.

Across the continent, rain hit the Pacific coast. In some rural areas south of Sydney, which were ravaged by the deadliest fires in Australian history two years ago, their size has fallen 21 centimeters in just the past 24 hours. November was also the wettest month in 122 years.

According to experts, the harsh climate in Australia has worsened due to human-caused climate change.

In fact, in recent years the continent has been hit by a series of natural disasters such as droughts, fires and floods.
