The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released new guidelines Friday that now allow private gatherings to hold up to three families.

The directive goes into effect in San Diego County on Saturday. The updated plan replaces the previous assembly guidelines issued in September 12 And the March 16.

The directive states that gatherings should take place outdoors and make the gathering smaller as it reduces the risk of contracting COVID-19. The directive also states that the host must collect the names of all attendees and contact information in case contact tracing is required later.

“Congregations may occur in outdoor spaces covered with awnings, awnings, awnings, roofs and other shade structures provided that at least three sides of the space (or 75%) are open to the outside,” CDPH says.

Additional instructions include:

  • For any gatherings permitted under this directive, the space must be large enough so that each person in the gathering can maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from others (not including their home) at all times.
  • Seating should provide a distance of at least 6 feet (in all directions – front to back and side to side) between different households.
  • Everyone in the gathering must wash their hands frequently with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available. There must be a place for handwashing or hand sanitizer for participants to use.
  • Common items should not be used during assembly. Whenever possible, any food or beverages in outdoor gatherings should be in single-use containers. If single-serving containers cannot be provided, food and drinks should be served by someone who frequently washes or cleanses their hands and wears a flip cap. Self-service items from shared containers should not be used.
