On Saturday afternoon, the Eagles team made several moves in the roster in preparation for Sunday’s match against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
Notably, the Eagles have activated Injured Reserve players to add depth both at the receiver and at the secondary level.
Here is the full list of movements from Saturday:
• WR Quez Watkins (rear) and Craig James (thigh) were activated by IR and are now on the list of 53 men.
• DB Grayland Arnold was hired from the coaching team to the list of 53 players.
Te Jason Crum and DB Elijah Riley were promoted from Sunday’s coaching team.
Watkins has been on the IR for quite some time after the final cuts. This means that he will make his NFL debut on Sunday afternoon. With Watkins active, Eagles will have five receivers available: Greg Ward Jr. John Hightower, Travis Fulgham, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, and Watkins. DeSean Jackson (hamstrings) and Alshon Jeffery (foot and disease) have already been ruled out. The difference from last week is that the Eagles will take Watkins, in the sixth round, instead of Deontay Burnett.
James’s big addition for vultures. It will be interesting to see if Jalen Mills stays in the corner for this game or if James starts facing Darius Slay. With the Avonte Maddox (ankle) out, eagles were light on their backs. If nothing else, James was an essential part of Dave Fipp’s Special Teams units.
Although he trained this week, the Eagles left Vinnie Carey (hamstrings) on IR. It shouldn’t be ready yet. And in his absence, the streak played well.
Croom will be the Eagles’ third goal behind Zach Arts and Richard Rodgers against the Steelers. Vultures have a sage butler on the list but it’s still fresh and is being turned from recipient to narrow end. Croom in 2018 earned 22 passes for 259 yards and landings as a member of the Bills.
Croom and Riley are raised thanks to the special rules for the 2020 season. Basically, they are given safe passage to and from the active roster of the coaching squad without being subjected to the surrender process.
And Arnold has already been raised twice, which is the limit. So instead, the Eagles just signed him onto their active list. Arnold played special teams against the Bengalis and 49 players, for a total of 27 shots.
