Hyundai in Korea presented the shape of one of its charging stations it intends to install across the country early this year. The Korean carmaker’s charging station is called E-Pit and it is inspired by the Formula 1 stops where owners of 800-volt charging models will be able to charge their cars 80% in just 18 minutes. It can also charge for just 5 minutes and add a total range of 100 km.
Network intended for future expansion
The Korean Group plans to build 12 E-Pit stations with a total of 72 charging points at several highway service stations across South Korea. At a later stage, it will also add another eight terminals with 48 charging stations in the centers. Across the country. Hyundai then added that it also offers a digital payment service that allows full shipping fees to be paid automatically using a mobile app.

In response to the electrical users’ request
Having dedicated charging stations like this is especially important in Korea where more than 60% of people live in apartments and therefore cannot count on charging their cars with a treadmill at home. It remains to be seen whether Hyundai will decide to export these charging stations to other countries around the world. A solution that, if adopted, would follow one that Tesla had already implemented first in the US and later in Europe.
Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, but also Genesis JW
The first car from the Korean carmaker to benefit from the new fast-charging stations will be the all-electric crossover. Then it will be joined by the Kia EV6, which is known to be based on the same Ioniq 5 platform and shares many of its components. Also by the end of this year, Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis offered for sale in the US will join the other two electric models with the JW crossover that uses the same Ioniq 5 and EV6 platform and thus provides a charging capacity of 800 volts.
The new packaging is suitable for the most sporty electric cars
The fast charging system could be the perfect solution for sporty electric cars, such as the top-of-the-range Kia EV6 line-up, and the GT all-wheel drive system equipped with a specific transmission range of 585 hp and 740 Nm. In fact, it promises sporty performance, with a top speed of 260 km / h and 3.5 seconds to reach 100 km / h from stopping, to which are added trim specs that involve the use of an electronically controlled rear differential.
