Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life It appears to be starting a new direction for Rare with an exciting crossover with Pirates of the Caribbean, but is it possible to see other exotic encounters in the future, perhaps with Monkey Island, given the undeniable closeness in terms of theme and atmosphere? We tried asking director Mike Chapman and here’s what he answered.
Keep in mind that the following can represent spoilers, so if you don’t want to have any expectation, even on very vague issues, avoid reading.
Apparently, it appears that in the new expansion there is a Easter egg That suggests, or at least suggests, some kind of intersection with Monkey Island, even if for now it’s a tribute, but it still shows some ideas to that effect by Rare.
Here’s what the developer had to say, as reported in the new preview about what the update with Jack Sparrow is and how it works: “I’m a huge Monkey Island fan,” said Mike Chapman. “[un crossover] This would be great. We are not currently working on anything like this, but what I can say is that in the life of a pirate, in addition to the amazing events and goals of the five absurd stories, there will be secrets to find And side quests that will reward the player in different ways. When you play these side quests, I recommend you to thoroughly explore everything, because if you are a fan of Monkey Island, there can be something that will make you very happy.”
On the other hand, with also Tim Shafer And Double Fine in the same Rare stable inside Microsoft, that may not be impossible, although the rights still need to be negotiated with LucasFilm Games, which recently returned to the scene. Anyway, the question is definitely intriguing and will prompt us to explore the whole new expansion, which was introduced at E3 2021 with a trailer.
