Demi Lovato He took a strong stand against President Donald Trump during the Billboard Music Awards Wednesday with the first performance of her politically charged single “The Commander in Chief”.

After an online leak several days ago, “Commander in Chief” was officially released Wednesday morning, just hours before he performed Lovato at the Billboard Music Awards. The track speaks directly to Trump, and repeats in his chorus, “Commander in Chief, honestly, if I do the things you do, I can’t sleep. Seriously, do you even know the truth? We are in a state of crisis, people are dying, while you fill your pockets deep, Commander in Chief. How. Do you feel you can still breathe? ”

Lovato has been nominated for four Billboard Music Awards during her career: Best Social Media Artist (2016 & 2018), Best Female Artist (2018) and Best Dance / Electronic Song for “No Promises” (2018), most recently with collaborator Cheat Codes.

Wednesday’s semi-virtual party, held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, has welcomed Kelly Clarkson for the third year in a row. The new Queen of the Day also opened the show with a performance of “High Love”.
