The British Music Experience (BME) is preparing to show the costumes worn by Sam Ryder at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin.
From 22 March, the Liverpool museum dedicated to music will feature the special suit Sam wore last May among its works.
Inspired by the fashions of stars like Ziggy Stardust, Queen, and Elton John, Sam Ryder’s black denim suit is adorned with gems and pearls that form subtle symbolism: the sun, moon, planets, and stars.
Illustrator Joseph Larkowski translated Sam’s ideas into images, masterfully crafted by Jenny King.
I wore this suit at the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin during the performance of “Space Man”. For me, it marked a turning point in the UK’s history of pageantry and a turning point in my music career. This costume cost 210 labor hours and was studded with 15,000 pearls and stones, equal to the number of hours I tried on and felt the high notes of the song! The creative process of writing Space Man with my closest friends, the journey we took as a team, and the audience reaction all culminated in the moment I put on this suit. And I couldn’t be happier about it, the fans deserve to see it on display in Liverpool.

BME Director Liz Koravos expresses great relief at the temporary addition to the museum’s collection. The UNESCO Director of the City of Music shares the same view.
This is great news for Liverpool and all the Eurovision Song Contest fans who will be visiting the city in May. It really is quite a coup for BME to be able to showcase Sam Ryder’s theatrical suit.
Kevin McManus, Director of the UNESCO City of Music in Liverpool
Fans will be able to see more British music memorabilia on display in Liverpool. The museum is also planning a special event with Sam Ryder on April 25th.
