Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti does not agree with the decisions taken by Europe: stop selling petrol and diesel cars? Italy replied, “No, thanks.” For the future of this type of energy supply, according to the government, it is necessary to keep pace with the indicators of the European Union.
Brussels, as we know, categorically means Stop selling heat engine vehicles by 2035. On the other hand, Italy would like to analyze the points of the Community Program, in order to achieve a virtuous ecological transition. Thus, Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti expressed himself as follows procedures which the country has to adopt to comply with EU requests.
First of all, according to the minister, the conditions are not met: the government should propose one to the European Commission “Fit for 55” review, to favor the electrification process, but without negative impacts on the supply chain in the automotive sector and the associated social aspects involved. This means at the moment Italy is not in the right social and economic conditions To be able to finally say goodbye to diesel and gasoline engines by 2035. This would lead to dangerous and uncontrollable conditions in the entire supply chain.
According to Giancarlo Giorgetti: “Environmental transformation must be confronted at one level neutral From a technological point of view. Decarbonization cannot be synonymous with electrification: that is why we cannot refuse other methods in advance. We need to continue research and development in non-fossil fuels, technologies that our companies are making with significant investments.”
And that’s not all, the government ended 2021 free of any incentive For the purchase of hybrid and electric cars, all available funds were used in a very short time. The roof available for those buying Euro 6 models with CO2 emissions between 61 and 135 g/km has also been removed. Therefore, so far there are only about 36 million euros left for the purchase of used Euro 6 cars, hybrid and electric cars that do not exceed 25,000 euros in quotations.
Also in this regard, Giorgetti was called to express himself: “The CEO regards the automotive sector as prioritySo it is hoped that, while drafting the new budget law, we will also think about how to re-launch the sector. The MISE President affirms: “Incentive measures, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Environmental Transformation, have been activated to produce benefits for the environment and support the automotive sector. Thus, they are measures that contribute to reducing polluting emissions and contribute to supporting the heavily tested automotive supply chain by moving to new technologies and because of the shortage of raw materials and semiconductors.”
