An armed gang has attacked a hospital in Ecuador in an attempt to kill a 17-year-old boy in intensive care who belonged to a rival clan. The police miraculously thwarted the ambush with no casualties. It’s just the latest horrific episode in a series of gunfights in the Ecuadorian underworld.

what happened
The young man who was targeted by the killers, nicknamed “Dirty Face”, is currently in intensive care after an incomplete ambush. Despite his young age, the 17-year-old is believed to be a prominent member of a clan in the Ecuadorean city of Chone. The seven gang members break into the house and take the nurses hostage, making their way to the room where the target to be killed is.
Police intervention averted the worst. After a gunfight, the military managed to rescue the healthcare workers taken hostage and arrest the attackers. Other hospital staff said they locked themselves in rooms as gunmen broke down doors, looking for the young man. Shocking video circulating on social media shows masked men wielding guns pushing a screaming woman through one of the hospital’s exit doors before dragging her back into the building.
Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso thanked the police, saying their intervention saved lives. The president shared footage on Twitter showing armed officers preparing to enter the building ahead of the arrests.
