The former referee had his say on the time wasted whistle against Bernard Foley
The “Renal case” is still under discussion. In the Australian All-Blacks final, the French referee punished Foley for wasting time, awarding a free kick to New Zealand, who scored the winning goal of the ensuing match.
Nigel Owens also intervened in the decision of Rinal, who gave his full support to his former teammate on his Twitter profile.

Nigel Owens’ opinion of the “Renal Affair”
“Many of you have contacted me to ask for my opinion,” said the Welsh referee, who posted the video of the controversial event with an explicit comment.
“Clear communication and a warning to the player to move forward. I think it is a strong and fair referee’s call,” Owens continued, supporting Raynal’s decision: “It is the players who have to learn to move forward when the referee asks,” concluded the previous referee.
Many of you have also been in touch to ask. Clear communication and a warning to the player to continue doing so. I feel fair and strong judging. Learning here is not for the referee, but for the players to keep up when the referee asks. pic.twitter.com/oZQASsO93f
