Former Bears star Steve McMichael diagnosed with MRSA, family requests prayers

Former Chicago Bears player Steve McMichael has been diagnosed with MRSA, a dangerous staph infection that is resistant to certain antibiotics, while he was hospitalized in New Lenox. The 66-year-old former defensive lineman, who has been battling ALS since January 2021, underwent a blood transfusion over the weekend.

McMichael had been admitted to the hospital on Thursday with what was initially believed to be pneumonia, but doctors later discovered he was suffering from a urinary tract infection. Despite initially responding well to antibiotic treatment for the UTI and undergoing a procedure to clear fluid from his lungs, his condition took a turn for the worse with the MRSA diagnosis.

The news comes as a shock to his fans, as McMichael was recently named as a member of the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame class just a week before this setback. During his illustrious career with the Bears from 1981 to 1993, McMichael made a name for himself, ranking second in franchise history in sacks and third in tackles.

His family is requesting prayers for his recovery as he continues to fight this latest health challenge. Stay tuned to ‘The News Teller’ for updates on Steve McMichael’s condition and recovery.
