ABU DHABI, March 14, 2022 (WAM) – The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, the regulator of the health sector in the emirate, and mRNA Victoria, representing the state of Victoria in Australia, have announced the signing of a cooperation agreement with the advancement of the global RNA ecosystem and the further development of treatments related to: COVID-19.
In the presence of Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Head of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, and Linda Dessau, Governor of Victoria in the state of Victoria, the agreement was signed by Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of the Ministry. Department of Health, and Michael Cable, CEO of mRNA Victoria.
The two entities will identify areas of interest related to research on the ANN, at the same time initiate academic collaborations and knowledge sharing, as well as identify early stage research investment opportunities. RNA is a nucleic acid found in all living cells that acts as a messenger carrying instructions from DNA. The collaboration will explore clinical trial and investment opportunities for the private sector in Abu Dhabi and Victoria.
Abu Dhabi has cemented its position as a center for life sciences and has been recognized for its pioneering response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The partnership with Victoria is one of many that aims to raise the bar for the health sector by building capacity and ensuring preparedness.
Dr. Al Kaabi commented, “Under the guidance of our wise leadership, Abu Dhabi has a proven track record in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi continues to work on adopting innovative treatments and innovative solutions. The UAE has been designed to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. As a result of the tremendous efforts of stakeholders and entities.” Across Abu Dhabi’s healthcare ecosystem, the department has managed to cement the capital’s position as a hub for life sciences and a hub for healthcare innovation.”
Gala Polford, Minister for Innovation, Medical Research and Digital Economy, Government of Victoria, said: “Victoria continues to be at the forefront of mRNA biotechnology and this agreement means global collaboration to share knowledge, information and skills within the ecosystem to support research and development of supply chains for pre-clinical research, marketing and production investments.”
Abu Dhabi doubled its research capabilities over the past year and developed many scientific, clinical and research projects that exceeded the number of projects conducted in the past five years.
