Last night we compiled the list of winners for the 2021 Golden Joystick Awards, with Resident Evil Village named Game of the Year, but GamesRadar thought it appropriate to offer some explanation about the award given to Best video game ever.

Joe Donnelly’s article takes it wide, reaffirming the extraordinary atmosphere of the original Dark Souls and its ability to create a true subgenre, all ten years ago now. However, the point is that it is still being talked about and will continue to be talked about.

In short, the game itself is not rewarded, but rather what it means, the change it made in the gaming world and what that change brought about in terms of mechanics, challenge, structure, etc.

A tradition we obviously hope to find at the Elden Ring, which we tried a few days ago and is another step forward to see Hidetaka Miyazaki.
