Microsoft has several non-exclusive Call of Duty deals with companies like Nintendo and Nvidia. Speaking to the European Commission today, March 17, 2023, Microsoft Chairman Brad Smith said he was ready to offer competitors other licensing deals.
“We’ve delivered on our promise to bring Call of Duty to more players on more devices with deals to bring the game to Nintendo’s console and cloud game streaming services from Nvidia, Boosteroid and Ubitus,” a company spokesperson said. . “We are now backing up that promise with binding commitments to the European Commission, which will ensure that this deal will benefit the players in the future as well.”
The European Commission has delayed its decision on the takeover until April 25th, but according to sources who spoke to Reuters, Microsoft is on its way to obtaining approval from the European Union’s antitrust authority.
Microsoft has repeatedly stated that it has no “financial incentive” to take Call of Duty away from PlayStation, though Sony recently suggested that the Xbox’s Starfield exclusivity is evidence that Microsoft won’t necessarily release any other games as cross-platform.
