On March 17, Boeing announced that it had taken over Shop assistant To produce or refurbish 184 attack helicopters Apache AH-64E For the US Army, Australia and Egypt.
Boeing said the contract value is $2.1 billion, with the potential for expansion to more than $3.8 billion. Deliveries will start from 2024 and the contract is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
The US Army will receive 115 remanufactured Apaches, with an additional 15 Apaches to be purchased as options. Boeing said an additional 54 aircraft would be delivered to “partner countries under the Foreign Military Sales Program.” The 29 Australian Apaches will be newly built machines, while the Egyptian models will be D models rebuilt to the standard of the latest AH-64E. In May 2020, the US State Department approved the refurbishment of 43 Egyptian AH-64D helicopters for approximately $2.3 billion.
Egypt has ordered a wide range of equipment to upgrade the helicopters including 88 T700-GE-701D engines; 47 AN/ASQ-170 Updated Target Acquisition and Sight Designation/AN/AAR-11 Modern Experimental Night Vision Sensors (MTADS/PNVS); 45 AAR-57 Joint Missile Warning Systems (CMWS) and 92 inertial/satellite navigation systems.
Also included are AN/AVR-2B Laser Scanning Kits, AN/APX-119 IFF Transponders, AN/APN-209 Radar Altimeters, AN/ARN-149 Automatic Direction Finders, Radios, APR-39 Warning Kits, and Advanced Image Intensifiers , Hellfire rocket launchers, 2.75-inch 19-tube rocket launchers, M230 autocannons with spare barrels, spare parts, and other equipment.
The prime contractors for the upgrade are Boeing and Lockheed Martin, which have been awarded multimillion-dollar contracts in 2021 and 2022 to upgrade the Apache sensors. Egypt has 46 AH-64Ds, some of which were delivered in A version and later upgraded to D standard.
