Bassetti: There is a middle ground between choosing Great Britain and Italy

98% of Britons have had contact with the virus in some way, either through vaccination or disease. The UK experienced an increase in circulation with delta and omicron waves and achieved safe immunity. Boris Johnson made a different choice than Italy, and certainly freer. The problem, however, is not whether Italy or the United Kingdom is right, Removing any restrictions overnight can be risky but there is a middle ground between us and the UK.” So Matteo Bassetti, Director of the Infectious Disease Clinic at San Martino Hospital in Genoa, comments on the UK’s choice to bid farewell to the Green Pass and other restrictions to combat Covid.

Ricciardi: “In Gb practically everything is wrong, cases will rise again in 2-3 weeks”

In the UK “Johnson is making another mistake in dealing with a pandemic in which practically everything is wrong. But the population is complacent and only realize the mistake when they go to hospital. How do you remove masks in schools when children are not vaccinated? There is a huge reservoir” of the virus. This is how Walter Ricciardi, scientific advisor to the Minister of Health and professor of hygiene at the Catholic University, guest of Ray Tree’s “Agora”, commented on the British government’s options to reopen everything. “We will see a rise in the number of cases in 2-3 weeks – continues Ricciardi – there has been a decrease in infections due to the vaccination campaign and the restrictions that have been adopted. If the measures are removed, everyone will get a green light and also lack the responsible behavior of the population.”

The first phase of the lifting of restrictions begins in Great Britain

The return to Plan A begins today, as outlined by the British government, which in the first stage envisages lifting anti-Covid restrictions with regard to referring to smart work where possible and the observance of masks in schools. Measures which are therefore no longer in force in England, as it happens in locally prescribed ways and times in other nations of the United Kingdom, and usually in line with epidemiological matters with what London decides. The second phase of the Plan B farewell begins on January 27: in this case the legal obligation to wear masks in public places and the miniature green corridor available only for entry to discos or group mass events will be eliminated.
