Dog Emmy is about 8 or 9 years old, a female Pit Bull mix and her owners must have decided they no longer wanted her this Christmas. They unloaded it from their car in Ecors, Michigan, and left it to its fate while a blizzard raged, in that USA which in recent weeks has faced record frosts.
Left homeless, the dog could only curl up to try to protect himself from the sub-zero temperatures, and stayed for two nights and three days, until some rescuers found him covered in frozen snow.
Through the efforts and collaboration of several shelters and veterinarians, Amy was rescued, tested, and treated. It looked like she had spent a lot of time locked in a cage. She was very thin, and had fleas and sores on her legs: everyone doubted that she would survive. Subsequently, the treatments received up to that point proved insufficient and an emergency clinic was required to dress his wounds and raise his body temperature. He was brought there by POET Animal Rescue, who took responsibility for the animal’s fate.
A very short time in the clinic was enough and not only did the dog’s health improve, but his personality also revealed itself for what it was, affectionate and gentle. Subsequently, Amy was discharged and transferred to the POET shelter. As soon as she was in, she jumped on the sofa in complete comfort and it immediately became clear that she was ready to be placed in a nursing home with an experienced family.
So, just two days after being rescued from a Michigan freeze, Amy spent December 25th in a warm home, surrounded by the affection of family (if only temporarily) and two dogs in matching Christmas pajamas. In two weeks, the tetrapod will be ready to be permanently given up for adoption and start a new life.
