Allergen contamination risk: Parmesan cheese recall

The Ministry of Health issued through its electronic portal a call notice Food products due to a higher risk of allergens being present: The press release refers to a specific brand of Parmigiano Reggiano Dub 24 months of spice.

It is, determined by the alert, the cheese produced and distributed by Trentine Spa (identification mark IT M2016 CE), company with registered office at Via Genova 19 in Cerea – Verona, at the factory located in Via Vittorio Foa 1 in Pegognaga (Mantova) 46020. The recall notice specifically relates to vacuum packages of Parmigiano Reggiano Dop 24 months With reference to the production lot P1843, which weighs approximately 800-900 grams and the expiration date specified in 01/04/2023.

The reason for the request to recall the product is related to the fact that some packages marked “Parmigiano Reggiano” already contain Grana Padano, the latter cheese which also includes among the ingredients “lysozymeIt is possible that this preservative, generally extracted from chicken egg white, may be present in some dairy products: its ingestion can cause allergic reactions in people who are intolerant to the product. This basically explains why the precaution recommended by the Department of Health is no risk, however, for those who are not allergic to eggs.

It should be noted that Parmigiano Reggiano can be easily distinguished from Grana Padano by the coalition branding on the heel and the film used to wrap the products.reads the Directorate’s alert again, “As the logo for Parmigiano-Reggiano has two logos of the consortium, while for Grana Padano it is completely neutral without logos.”
