This would not be the first time: in 1989 a test match of this kind was held (we suggest again in the video). Melbourne is ready to fill 100,000 seats
Several Ovals media outlets in recent hours have reported a news that could give life to a great Test match: a mixed selection between the best All Blacks and the Wallabies to challenge the British and Irish Lions. The venue and date will already be there, as this test match will be played at the massive Melbourne Cricket Ground (the stadium with over 100,000 seats) during the Tour of 2025.

“We are talking with the New Zealand Football Association to create this ANZAC team and I have no doubt it will be a great game with a full house in the stands,” said Australian rugby coach Hamish McLennan. So Lions can add a fourth test to the series they’ll play in Kangaroo Land in three years’ time.
One interesting thing must be emphasized for sure: this wouldn’t be the first time an ANZAC team went to challenge the British and Irish Lions. It actually happened, just once, during the 1989 tour when the British and Irish won 19-15 at Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane, even if the opponents were mostly Australians and only three from New Zealand, as the All Blacks in the same weeks. They took part in a series of test matches against Argentina and therefore many of their players preferred rest. However, this is taken very seriously in Australia, as confirmed by local televisions.
