“It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the death of Alexei Lyho,” said a statement issued by Napalm Records on behalf of Bodum after midnight.
Laiho was the guitarist and vocalist for the Metal Band Children of Bodom, which was formed in 1993 under the name IneartheD, until the group played their final show in 2019.
The guitarist has won several other international awards for his music, and is a recipient of a Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award, according to Bodom After Midnight management.
In 2015, he led a group of 100 Guitarists at the 2015 Helsinki Festival playing his own piece, “100 Guitar from Hill”.
Laiho later formed the super group Bodom After Midnight. The group recorded three songs and filmed a music video, which will be released after his death, according to a statement on his official Facebook page.
In addition to Children of Bodom, the guitarist has also been associated with the act of Warmen, Sinergy, Kylähullut and The Local Band, according to a statement signed by Bodom Management After Midnight.
“Alexei was the most loving and wonderful husband and father,” his wife Kelly Wright-Lyho said in a statement. “Our hearts are broken forever.”
