True to its tradition of hosting world-class sailors, Les Sables d’Olonne, the world capital of single ocean racing, is now home to the International Cape Horners Hall of Fame.

The International Association of Cape Horners (IACH) is calling for nominations for the 2023 Cape Horn Hall of Fame to consolidate the names of 28 famous sailors who were inducted last year during a ceremony at Les Sables d’Olonne.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Chairman of the Cape Horn Hall of Fame Committee, says: “This year, we are looking for Cape Horners past and present who have made a significant contribution to the sport of sailing, either on their own or at the helm of a crew around the world’s most famous chiefs.”

Its panel, which includes veteran French sailor Jean-Luc van den Hede (VP), American navigator Stan Honey and fellow sailors De Cavare (UK) and Dilip Dundee (India), will review each nomination and select the top 20 names for a vote by IACH members to decide the six Finalists to be inducted into the 2023 Cape Horn Hall of Fame.

“We are very pleased to have the IACH Hall of Famer Cape Horn as a regular fixture at Les Sables d’Olonne,” says Yannick Moreau, the city’s mayor. The honor board pays tribute to these men and women who have shown so much bravery and bravery. It has also become a pilgrimage for recipients and their families to visit, building on our maritime reputation and importance as the home of the world’s single Fundy Globes and Golden Globes.”

Adds Ashley Manton, President of the International Federation of Cape Horners, “This is now a major event in the sailing calendar encouraging future generations to follow in the footsteps of their elders in setting new sailing records around the world.”
