In a recent interview with Edge, Phil Spencer, Xbox Chief, repeat that Game Pass is a sustainable service Is that It’s not Microsoft’s only focus regarding their marketing strategies.
In the interview, Spencer talked about future plans for the Xbox division, where it is clear that Game Pass will play a leading role, but it will not be the only goal that Microsoft is pursuing.
“Do I want or imagine a future where all Xbox users are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass? No. I want people to be free to make their own decisions. Some want to buy all the games we publish and create their own personal library,” Spencer said.
In the same interview, Spencer responds to those who criticize Xbox Game Pass by saying that it is not a sustainable business model, such as Sony Shawn Layden and Jim Ryan, explaining that because it is a subscription service, it manages to ensure a steady stream of revenue.
“Subscriptions ensure that you get a good steady stream of revenue. This is important for any company, and it adds to the peak in sales of some of the retail games released,” Spencer explains.
“For this reason, our strategy is a combination of several elements. One does not rule out the other. Our business is not based on a single number. Retail game sales, console sales numbers, Windows engagement, Game Pass, xCloud… It really is all These things together.”
Spencer has already stated in the past that Xbox Game Pass is a sustainable business model in an interview with Axios, also making clear in this case that the service isn’t the only growth component of Microsoft’s gaming division.
