(ANSA) – Usta, May 06 – Due to the spread of COVID-19 infection in the past few hours, many mountain climbers – as well as porters and various individuals – have been evacuated from base camps in Everest and Dolagiri, in the Himalayan mountain range in Nepal. This is what was reported by the local media.
The most dangerous situation is Base Camp Dhaulagiri, the seventh highest mountain on Earth, where around 150 people are including climbers and mission support personnel.
The positivity appeared after antigen tests conducted by a medical team from the Nepalese army, which arrived immediately. About twenty people including mountain climbers and “positive” Sherpa have already been flown by helicopter to Kathmandu, and others will be evacuated as soon as weather conditions permit the flight. Andorra climber Stevie Trogey wrote on Twitter: “The past few days have been crazy and uncertain. So many cases of Covid, people have been evacuated and some are waiting.”
There are about 1,600 people at the Everest Base Camp.
So many cases of Covid have been recorded, to the point where positive isolation areas have been established. About twenty “wounded” have already been transferred to Kathmandu. Doctors have urged climbers not to move out of their expedition tents, not to visit other climbers, and to always keep a mask. (handle).
