(ANSA) – Sydney, April 23 – The Australian diving team announced that it is “unsafe” to travel to Japan for tests before the Tokyo Olympics, just three months before the start of the games that have been postponed by a year due to the epidemic.
It is expected that the diving World Cup will be held from 1 to 6 May in the Japanese capital, but with the Japanese government today imposing new virus emergencies in Tokyo and in three other regions, the Australian national diving team made it clear that, “The statement added that sending our players and officials to “The World Cup will not be safe. Our position is clear under the current circumstances that regular and safe Olympic qualifiers are not possible at the present time.”
Japan experienced a relatively small outbreak of Covid-19, with fewer than 10,000 deaths despite the lack of the strict lockdowns seen in other countries.
But mounting issues have called for new restrictions to be imposed as the country prepares to host the games, forcing the torch relay to turn away from public roads in an effort to keep spectators away.
