During SIGGRAPH 2022, lonliness Unveiled a new one Technical offer In real time, reproduced on a PS5 4K And a frame rate of 30 frames per second. The demo is called Lion (the Lion, as it is easy to understand from the video itself). The tools for creating this demo are: Wētā Digital, SpeedTree, Ziva, SyncSketch and of course Unity Editor.
One of the coolest aspects of Lion’s show for PS5 is animal furcreated with Wētā Digital’s new tool, Wig.
Sarah HansenUnity Technical Artist says, “The wig is a different way of working, and it’s really the fastest hair creation tool I’ve ever used. Creating a high quality, which would take several months in another care package, is much faster to build in the Wig. It only takes two weeks , and some steps span from weeks of building with other tools to a day or a few days in a Wig, with much better quality levels and more customization by the artist…even when you have to respond to detailed feedback notes from artistic direction, such as modifying a particular skein. From a reference shot, it’s easy to be an author in a wig.”
Then the unit was updated To be able to support millions of individual hairs, all moving independently. “Improvements include a new GPU-managed bulk hair simulation, which allows millions of hair strands to interact dynamically in real time — it’s part of the new Unity hair system released on GitHub. This approach is based on simulation. View, enemies, and expand ways to manage numbers Large strands of hair efficiently across the GPU.”
“To render hair and fur, Unity graphics developers designed a series of improvements to the GPU-based software rasterization algorithm in HDRP, with significant optimization to render several million unique strands of hair. This method resulted in smooth images using anti-analytic processing and transparency. Independent hair filament and advanced physics-based hair lighting models to deliver cinema-quality hair strands.”
Unity mentioned that these improvements in hair, fur, and rendering simulation will be so Released to the public With Tech Stream 2023.1.
