UK warning signs of the fatal outcome of some severe pediatric cases of group A streptococcal infection. Six patients under the age of 10, all enrolled in primary or nursery schools, have died from this type of infection since the start of the cold season, according to data released on Friday by specialists from the UK’s Health Security Agency, the institution that coordinates NHS medical facilities. As a rule, this bacterial form has mild symptoms, but in recent months more than a dozen cases of childhood infections defined as “infection” have been recorded on the island: about half of them were fatal within seven days.
Five of the six tragic episodes recorded so far took place in England, costing, among others, the lives of a 6-year-old boy in London and a 4-year-old boy in Buckinghamshire. While a little girl died after the same diagnosis in Wales.
An appeal has been made to all parents to seek medical advice without delay if their children display certain symptoms.
