At least 25 Palestinians were detained in the occupied West Bank over the weekend, with arrests taking place in the Hebron region as well as in Jerusalem. Among those detained were a woman originally from Gaza, a child, a wounded person, and former prisoners. The Palestinian Prisoner Society has accused Israeli security forces of widespread abuse, beatings, threats against detainees and their families, and even the destruction of homes.
One of the detainees was a cancer patient from Gaza who was on her way to Jerusalem to receive treatment. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted overnight counterterrorism activity, claiming to have arrested wanted suspects and confiscated weapons. However, they deny mistreating detainees and have stated that only six people were arrested in the Bethlehem refugee camp of Dehisha.
Since Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, over 7,630 Palestinians have been arrested in the West Bank and Jerusalem. The IDF has specifically targeted wanted suspects, including approximately 1,500 members of Hamas. The violence against Palestinians by both Israeli troops and settlers has seen a sharp increase during this period, according to the Palestinian health ministry in Ramallah.
The situation remains tense in the occupied territories as Palestinians continue to face detention and alleged mistreatment by Israeli security forces. The ongoing conflict has led to widespread arrests and escalating violence, leaving many concerned about the future stability of the region.
