Whatever happens on Thursday in the fourth game of ALDS, the Yankees will need to boost their rotation in the upcoming season.
There is no doubt that Trevor Bauer realizes this as he approaches the free agency and has made his first showing against the Yankees after 8-4 loss for rays In Game 3 at Petco Park in San Diego.
“Kinda looks like yankees can use more promotion to get started. Interesting,” Bauer said He wrote on Twitter.
It came after Masahiro Tanaka got his second consecutive poor start in the post-season period, allowing for five runs in four-plus rounds – and one day after the Yankees failed in Game 2 using Deivi Garcia in the set before bringing JA Happ in the second.
Bauer will be among the free agents category that also includes Hap and James Paxton. So is Tanaka.
There are many unanswered questions about the Yankees’ rotation in 2021 behind Gerrit Cole, with Luis Severino knocking out Tommy John surgery, rookie Jordan Montgomery in Game 4, and inexperienced right-handed people like Garcia and Clark Schmidt and possibly Jonathan Louisega and Mike King.
Bauer comes out of an excellent bounce season. After wrestling with the Reds after a mid-season deal from Cleveland in 2019, the 29-year-old went 5-4 with 1.73 p.m. 11 starts in the short regular season and is in conversation for a NL Cy Young award.
