(ANSA) – ROME, Oct 30 – The COP26 climate train at Avanti West Coast has left London Euston station today for Glasgow, Scotland. The initiative, as a note explains, “affirms the commitment of Trenitalia UK, controlled by Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group), towards sustainability and the reduction of CO2 emissions in the transport sector, and hosts on board representatives of Italian, British and European institutional delegations that will participate in the work of COP26.” . The initiative stems from the partnership between Avanti West Coast and Eurostar, and through the journey aims to confirm the train as a more sustainable vehicle for European and British delegates to the 26th Conference of Parties on Climate, to be held under joint supervision. Presidency of Italy and the United Kingdom. Delegates from Amsterdam and Brussels arrived at St Pancras Station and then joined the Avanti West Coast service from Euston Station.
Trenitalia UK Managing Director, Ernesto Cecilia welcomed the guests on board the special train. They include Italy’s ambassador to the UK, Raffaele Trombetta, the EU’s representative to the UK, Valle de Almeida, UK transport minister Chris Heaton-Harris, ICE’s director of London, Giovanni Sacchi, and University College London professor Paolo Tatechi.
