Sebastian Vettel will change his Mercedes power unit during the US Grand Prix. This was confirmed by himself during the press conference held today. So it is still unclear if it will take a whole bunch of new parts and fall straight to the bottom of the grid. Or he will simply change his car’s internal combustion engine (ICE) and serve a 10-place grid penalty.

The weakness that Mercedes sees in its powertrain package is in the ICE itself, and has led to penalties being imposed on factory drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas over the past month. Vettel crashed his power unit during free practice in Zandvoort in September.
